I would like to plan a trail ride on four wheelers after the coffee and rolls in Ponsford and the send offs, so if you would like to join us we will be meeting just west of Ponsford at Mikes place at like 2:00 pm and will be riding through the camps 5,6,7 ending up back at Mikes or Icecracking lodge for a cocktail... Smith Family Recipes…

This recipe was donated by Jane Smith.  She said it was the first she has seen that reminded her of the one Grandma Marie used to make.  Enjoy!

Hamburger Rice Hotdish

3 ½ cups boiling rice                      2 cups chopped celery

1 cup raw rice                                 1 can cream of celery or chicken soup

2 Tablespoons brown sugar                3 Tablespoons soy sauce

1 teaspoon salt                               1 pound hamburger

1 small onion

Pour boiling water into a 2 quart casserole dish.   Add rice, brown sugar and salt.  In a frying pan brown hamburger, onion and celery.  Add to the rice mixture.   Stir in the soup and soy sauce.  Bake uncovered at 350* for about 1 hour.  (or until the liquid is all absorbed)




Recipe of Love by Bevie Reiner

Ingredients:


4 parts Faith
4 cups of Love
1 barrel Laughter
3 cups Forgiveness
1 cup Friendship
2 cups Loyalty
2 spoons Tenderness
5 spoons Hope


Instructions:


Mix the Love and the Loyalty with Faith.
Add Tenderness and Forgiveness.
Sprinkle with Friendship and Hope.
Season abundantly with Laughter.
Bake with rays of the Son.
Serve with Generosity.

I learned that bacon grease in pancakes is the bomb from gramma,
but mine still dont taste like hers.



Willow Branch

Only recipe I can remember is the one for a red willow branch. Funny always thought it form one of the girls so I always found a nice that would not break. Boy did I get the surprise when it was for me ! Darn girls always made the scapegoat. even when I got the car to take us to P.R. LOL love u sisters U were the best a brother could have...

Donations...

We are working on getting donations for the reunion on July 22, 23 and 24th.

All donations will be used for a raffle that weekend.   Right now we have only a

few items.   They are: wild rice, Avon items, scrapbooking items, crafting

items, jewelry and school supplies.   If you would like to donate please send

donations to Jane Smith or Missy Weaver.  Addresses are below.   If you don’t

want to mail these items but can meet one of us prior to the reunion that would

work too.   It would need to be organized before the reunion.   This raffle is a

way of contributing to the reunion fund.  The reunion costs about $1,000.00 to

feed everyone and makes it easier for those that are out of town to not have to

bring food.   But in order for it to work, we need monetary donations coming in

too.   Right now we have about $500.00 in our reunion account. We will need more

in it to provide the meal for this year’s reunion and starter funds for the next

reunion.

March News...

Keep the dates…

Keep the dates!!  July 22, 23 and 24^th, 2011.   This is when the next Smith Family Reunion will be.   It will be in Park Rapids at Missy and Randy’s home.   The address is 16555 State 87 Park Rapids, MN 56470.   For directions just jump onto www.mapquest.com and type in yours and my addresses and it will get you directions right to the house.  This is the same place we had our 2009 reunion.   (WE ARE NOT AT THE PARK THIS TIME)  
Directions from the itersection in Park Rapids of Hwy 34 and Hwy 71 (McDonald's) Go South for 4 miles to Hwy 87.  Take a left and go about 3 miles to blue fire number 16555.  I also have a day care sign out at the end of the driveway that reads "Missy's Family Child Care".  Follow the driveway down to the house.   If you are a elder please drive right up to the house and someone will park your car for you if you would like.  Otherwise others will have to walk up the driveway to the house.   Sorry!!!

Reunion news…

This is a BIG undertaking and it would be nice to have some volunteers so that everyone has time to visit.   So we are looking for some helpers in the following areas:

1.      Someone to head the golf match

2.      Someone to head the softball match

3.      Someone to head the poker match  (Steve Schwaab will be running this)

4.      Some chefs & dishwasher to help in the kitchen at Missy’s house.

5.      Some helpers to help clean up at Missy’s when we are all done

6.      Someone to head Sunday’s rolls and coffee.

Poker Tournament at Missy’s house on Saturday night of the reunion will go as follows……(per Steve Schwaab)

Just wanted to let you know that I am going to run the poker tournament as follows; $10.00 buy in/ pay out will be:
1st place-60% of total purse
2nd place-30%
3rd place-10%
This year I am also going to offer an extra chip worth $5000.00 at the start of the tournament, (you can buy two) at a price of $5.00 each... The money that is collected for those will go into the account for the cost of the reunion. Of course they are optional but they will give each player that buys them a huge advantage in the tournament.

How the reunion weekend will go...

There will be door drawings available to help support the meal for this time and starter money for the next reunion.  These will have many prizes that were donated by family members that had a new or gently used item to share.   There will be tickets sold for 5 different groups of gifts.  Should be great fun!!!  If you have new or gently used items you would like to donate please contact Missy Weaver or Jane Smith.  They will then be added to one of the baskets.   Or if big enough it may be able to have its own drawing.  So far donations of Avon products & school supplies are being donated from Jane & Bill Smith and Rick & Coke Smith are donating wild rice.

So far the schedule looks like this:

 Friday- There will be a golf match in the morning.  (times to come later)  Show up when you can we will eat hot dogs and chips and baked beans around 6 pm at Missy and Randy’s home.   Then we can visit till whenever around the campfire or in the house.

Saturday- Show up when you can and we will eat Indian tacos about noon or so.   There will be lots of visiting time this day.   Bring a chair and water stuff for river fun.   There will be a poker tournament this day in the evening.  We can have a campfire.   Story telling is a great family tradition we learned from Grandma and Grandpa Smith.  Come prepared with your family stories to share.

Sunday – We will meet out in Ponsford at the cemetery for a little prayer service and then we will have family photos and send offs.

Reunion Meeting...
Reunions this big take LOTS of planning.   We have had up to about 500 family members at a reunion.   So we meet thruough out the year prior to the BIG reunion to plan the meals, the prizes, the place, who will help out, and many other things.   We are having our next reunion meeting on April 3^nd at 1 pm  in Detroit Lakes.   We will meet at God Father’s Pizza.   We will be discussing the meal and going over details for the reunion weekend.   Everyone is welcome to attend.  We are going dutch if anyone eats at this meal.   If you are a reunion committee member and you had a job to get done before we meet please come prepared.   Just a reminder in case you forgot to get your part done, lol.

Lea Haverkamp was voted Sophmore Snow Daze Princess 2011 for the Waubun High School.  Congrats Lea!!  She is the daughter of Christie & Tony Haverkamp.  (Grand daughter of Bev)

Out of State Traveling…

Bev and Dan Reiner would like to pass on a invite to everyone in the family that if they are traveling and would like to spend the night in Casper - we would welcome them, provide a bed, dinner and breakfast - for their continued journey.  We are located 4 hours from Rapid City, Billings, Denver, Yellowstone and Jackson Hole Wyoming, SO.... nicely positioned for the weary traveler.

Rori Koch and Jon Notch are traveling together this month to Florida with their newly formed family of 5 kids.   They plan to do some major beach time along with some Disney fun.   Ask them all about it next time you see them!

Christie Kay and children took a trip to Hawaii this last February.

They had a wonderful time doing many tourist things it sounds like.

Nikki Dutton and Nick Schlechter had a baby girl Lainie Marie she was 6 lbs 15 oz. on January 6^th.

Baby shower on March 19^th in Bemidji  at 1 pm at Giovanni's Pizza for Alex Heisler & Jaslyn Krogstad.   Alex is Shannon Heisler’s son. (And Bev’s grandson)

Annie and Brian Dutton will be moving to Plymouth, MN on March 12^th, 2011.

Andy Haverkamp(Christie and Tony Haverkamp’s son) is moving home from Alaska this month.   Mom and Dad are very excited to get him home.  Andy has been in Alaska since June 2006.   Welcome home Andy!!

Home News…

Jane and Bill Smith got a grant to do some fixing up on their home.    Here are some before and after photos.  It looks great!!  They were very excited!   Photos  on the left are of the living room.

They got all new wood floors and carpet in the bedrooms.   They gutted the bathroom and also painted the whole upstairs.   They also got the roof redone too.   So it was a very busy few weeks at their house.  The best part was they did not have to do any of the work.    It was all done for them!!  Yahoo!!

In State Traveling…

Jane and Bill Smith went traveling to the cities this last month over Bill’s birthday.   They got to spend some time visiting and shopping.  They also got to stay with their daughter Rori Koch and Jon Notch’s for a few days and celebrate Rori’s sons birthday and Bill’s too.  They had some fun times!!
